2008 Dodge Caliber Muffler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Ensure Proper Alignment of the Muffler When Assembling the Exhaust System on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: Position each component in the system and examine the fit, but do not tighten the clamp until that point. Fit the I-Pipe/Muffler assembly to your catalytic converter next and make sure to install the isolator supports to the underbody as well. At the start, place each part in its correct position and see if it touches the car's underbody, then tighten the clamp to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Avoid tightening band clamps so much that the two sides meet inside at the center block, because this makes the clamp stretch and become weak and you will need to replace it. Get rid of the old band clamp nut, peel back the clamp ends to break the weld, then file or grind the remaining weld bit till the pipe is smooth and put the new band clamp on correctly. Then, join the exhaust system's ground strap, crank your engine and check for any leaks, fixing them if needed. Also, examine how the exhaust is in contact with the body panels and make any needed repairs or fixes to them.
