2008 Dodge Grand Caravan A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the A/C Hose and Adjust the Refrigerant Oil Level on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: When dealing with the A/C system, making sure the refrigerant oil level is correct will protect the compressor from damage. Whenever you disconnect refrigerant lines, it's important to change the seals and gaskets to keep leaks from occurring. The liquid line contains a section in front that links the condenser to the receiver/drier and a section in back that connects the receiver/drier to the expansion valve, plus an extension for vehicles with a rear heating-A/C system. Before starting on the front section, take away the tape or plugs on the refrigerant line fittings and ports, oil a new rubber O-ring with clean refrigerant oil and fit it to the liquid line fitting with the new gasket. Slide the front of the A/C liquid line into the engine compartment, clip it into position and attach it to the condenser tapping block. After you tighten the hose securely with a 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) nut, join the front section to your vehicle's A/C receiver/drier and tighten the bolt to 13.5 Nm (120 in. lbs.). When the air cleaner housing and inlet duct are reinstalled, brush up the negative battery cable, evacuate the refrigerant gas, check the refrigeration oil level and charge the refrigerant system. Remove any tape or plugs from the back part of the system, put some lubricant onto the new washer seals and fit them onto the refrigerant line ends. Connect the rear section under the engine, attach it to the retaining brackets, connect it to the A/C expansion valve and suction line tapping block and use a nut to secure everything at 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Apply lube to the O-ring and the fitting, fit the new ring onto the fitting, join the A/C receiver/drier to your car's rear and tighten the bolt to 13.5 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Install a new rubber O-ring on the fitting atop the A/C receiver/drier, attach the A/C pressure transducer and hand-tighten to 5.6 Nm (50 in. lbs.) and then join the wire harness. If your model has a rear heating-A/C system, link the rear segment to the underbody liquid line, then attach the negative battery cable again, remove the refrigerant, check and adjust the refrigerant oil level and charge up the refrigerant.
