2009 Dodge Nitro Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: In the case of 2WD vehicles, start by transferring the front tie rods to the new rack and pinion, if required, before everything else. Then, attach the rack and pinion to the vehicle and fix it with the gear mounting bolts, tightening them to 176 Nm (130 ft.lbs.). Attach the power steering lines to the rack and pinion and work the tube nuts down to 27 Nm (20 ft.lbs.). Replace the lower coupler pinch bolt after sliding the coupler onto the rack and pinion. Then torque the bolt to 53 Nm (39 ft.lbs.). Join the tie rod end to the knuckle and fix the nuts in place by cranking them to 41 Nm (30 ft.lbs.) plus 90° more. The next step is to fit the tire and wheel assembly and if your vehicle needs one, install the skid plate. Take out the support, lower the car and unlock the steering wheel. Pour the power steering fluid and set the toe with the wheel in the center.
