2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Timing Cover on a 3.7L Engine on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Clean the surface of the timing chain cover and engine block using rubbing alcohol and do not use oils or abrasive tools just to prevent damage. The factory anaerobic sealer for the 3.7L engine needs to be replaced with Mopar(R) Engine Grey RTV and a gasket. Check the conditions of the water passage o-rings and swap them if they need to be replaced. Use a strip of Mopar(R) Grey Engine RTV sealer that's about 3 to 4 mm wide on the edge of the front cover. Put the cover in place, align it with the holes and tighten the bolts to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.) in the correct order. Subsequently, place the disappearing nuts on the crankshaft damper, fit the A/C compressor, generator and accessory drive belt tensioner assembly. After that, fit the radiator hose at the top and the bottom, both heater hoses and secure the electric fan shroud with the viscous fan drive assembly. In the end, fill the cooling system and join the negative end of the battery.
