2009 Dodge Viper Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Camshaft Removed from an Engine on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: Before getting rid of the camshaft, check that each rocker arm, push rod and hydraulic tappet is known and set aside for reassembly where they belong. Don't take the bolt out from the rocker arm while you are removing it. You should begin by removing the cylinder heads and continue with the hydraulic tappets. After that, remove the timing chain case and both engine mount nuts from the left and the right. Attach the oil pan with two bolts and then lower the vehicle. Adjust the frame so that the timing marks pass over a straight edge. After loosening the inner and outer bolts on the drive plate, you can take away the plate as the last step. After that, take out the retaining bolt for the phaser/sprocket and also remove the camshaft phaser/sprocket with the timing chain. Separate the camshaft thrust plate bolts and the thrust plate from the engine head. Prop up the oil pan with a jack and a robust block of wood to lift the engine high enough to fit package camshaft handle 10132 in place. Put the camshaft handle into the camshaft and gently lift the camshaft out of the engine block, so as not to bend or scrape the camshaft bearing.
