How to Safely Remove an Air Bag on 2008 Jeep Commander?

Before removing the air bag from the driver's seat, first remove the negative battery cable, wait two minutes and then reattach the cable. To prevent injury from deposits on the air bag cushion, put on rubber gloves, eye protection and a long-sleeved shirt. If the air bag was supposed to work and hasn't deployed, but it is undamaged, manage the situation as you would for other non-deployed safety systems. Review the proper service after deployment instructions if you want to remove the air bag. Walk down all the way and rest the steering wheel stand to the lowest level. If you can't see your instrument well, use a small mirror to help. Rotate the steering wheel until the air bag retainer access holes at the two o'clock, six o'clock and ten o'clock positions line up with twelve o'clock, so you can reach them. Put a short handled, flat-bladed screwdriver into one of the upper access holes so that the blade is on the inside of the air bag wire loop, twist the handle and pull the driver air bag away from the steering wheel. Perform this process on the second upper access hole and then on the lower access hole which is shaped like a V. After opening the air bag, pull it away enough to reach the electrical wires at the back of the air bag housing. Make sure not to pull on the wires or pry inside the connector to keep the clock works undamaged. The Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connectors are held together with a lock; with the lock facing you, grasp it and pull directly out to separate the insulators from the air bag inflator. In the end, take off the driver air bag from the steering wheel. The Clock Spring needs to be replaced as soon as the driver air bag has deployed.
