2008 Jeep Commander Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Your Washer Pump on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: The first step in servicing a windshield washer pump is to take off and section off the negative battery cable. Set the front wheels completely to the left by turning the steering wheel and afterward raise and support the car. Lift away the small plastic push-in fasteners around the top edge of the left front wheelhouse splash shield which attach it to the inner fender as well as the front fascia. With the forward side of the splash shield loose from the fender panel and front fascia, you can reach the washer pump/motor on the outer side of the washer reservoir. Remove the headlamp and dash wire harness connectors from the motor connector receptacle. Record the hose position so you can install them back correctly later. Separate the front and rear washer hoses from the washer pump outlets so that the fluid falls out and can be saved in a clean container. Pull the top of the washer pump/motor housing out to the side so the snap post clears the hole on the top of the motor. Once you have the unit above water level, use your hand to twist the lower section of the pump/motor housing, pulling the unit outward to remove the pump nipple from the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir. Then, get rid of the rubber grommet seal in the washer pump mounting hole within the reservoir.
