2008 Jeep Liberty Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before working on the engine oil pan, cut the negative battery connection, fit the engine support and raise the vehicle. Remove both the front wheel assemblies and the skid plate and once that's done, drain the oil from the engine. Record the cam position of the bolts for the front lower control arm and then remove these bolts. Separate the LH tie rod, LH lower ball joint and LH strut clevis and eliminate the bolts holding the LH front axle and front axle brace. Then, remove the front prop shaft and let the front axle empty from inside. Firmly support the car's front axle using a transmission jack and take out the bolts that attach the axle bracket. Still attached to the RH axle, detach the front differential, after that the transmission oil cooler line bracket and the engine to transmission stiffening bracket. Slide the Engine Support 8534 onto the fender lip where the brackets' slots line up with the car's fender holes and attach the brackets to the car with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 MM flanged cap screws. Twist the thumbscrews to hold the sleeves to the support tube and stand the tube upright. Put the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T handle together, then use the flanged M10 X 1.75 mm nut from the support fixture to anchor the chain to the front engine lifting stud. Take off the bolts attaching the oil pan, remove the pan and don't pry on it; the gasket stays with the windage tray if you pry. After that, put the oil pan and windage tray up front and take them out.
