2008 Jeep Liberty Windshield Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Windshield on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before installing the windshield, make sure you have read all the warnings and cautions. Cracking a window allows pressure to escape and helps avoid water leaks, since you shouldn't close any gates or doors while the urethane is still curing. Don't let any painted or trimmed parts touch urethane or primer during construction. Clean off any old urethane from the windshield fence and set up the support spacers so they are well fixed to the repair screws or weld studs below. Insert the new windshield into place so it's in the middle of the support rails and mark the places of the spacers on the glass afterwards. Lay down the windshield glass on a good work surface, placing two padded wood blocks 10 cm x 10 cm x 50 cm, spaced 75 cm apart beneath it. Clean the interior side of your windshield by spraying Mopar(R) Glass Cleaner on a lint-free cloth. Rub a 25 mm wide line of clear glass primer around the edge of the windshield and use a clean, dry cloth to wipe it up. After that, put on a black-out primer along the top and sides for 25 mm and along the bottom for 25 mm, giving it three minutes to dry. Stick adhesive-backed spacers near the edge of the window, match the dot on the upper molding to the middle mark on the glass and slide the upper molding into place. Cover the edge of the windshield with a 10 mm bead of urethane and put two beads along the bottom edge too. Run a coat of fence primer on the outside of the windshield opening fence, giving it at least 18 minutes to dry. With some support, put the windshield over the window frame and line up the marks at the bottom with the spacers. Slowly fit the windshield into the hole, leading the molding with it as you lower it and press the windshield against the spacers until the molding is even with the roof. Wipe out any extra urethane from the outside of your vehicle with Mopar(R) Super Clean or a similar cleaner. Start by adhering the molding and clips to the A-pillar, then use the push pin. Position your cowl grille on top of the windshield and clip it to the body, after which insert the four push pins through the grille and into the hood. Set the seal along the rear hood, followed by installing the wiper arms and the rear view mirror. When the urethane has hardened, spray water on the glass to make sure the repair is correct.
