2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove a Deployed Air Bag on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: If you want to remove a deployed seat air bag, the seat back and all its damaged components must be changed. Always change a nondeployed seat air bag only when it is defective or has been found to be faulty. Start by pushing the front seat all the way forward and lift the hood. After taking out the battery negative cable, wait two minutes for the air bag system reserve capacitor to drain so that the air bags do not deploy accidentally. After that, take the front seat out of your vehicle. Release the seat back trim cover J-strap from the front, rear and air bag side of the seat back by taking off the back panel. Take the yellow locking tab down to open the connector, then push on the side tabs and pull the connector straight out of the module. Take out the nuts and the bracket that secure the seat air bag. Lift the upper air bag area of the seat back trim and pull it away from the seat frame so that removing the air bag doesn't cause any damage to either the trim cover or the cushion. Unhook the seat air bag studs from the nylon sleeve and gently take out the air bag to avoid any tears in the sleeve or this could affect the air bag's function.
