2009 Dodge Challenger Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Front Steering Knuckle on 2009 Dodge Challenger?
A: The front steering knuckle must be removed after supporting and raising the vehicle. Following this, take off the three nuts holding the wheel and take away the entire tire and wheel group. Disconnect the screw joining the wheel speed sensor to the knuckle and remove the sensor head. Take the clip off the wheel speed sensor cable routing bracket and then remove the fastener from the brake flex hose routing bracket to the knuckle. Take off and then remove the front brake rotor. Get rid of the nut secured to the tie rod stud and with Ball Joint Remover 9360, gently remove the stud from the ball joint in the knuckle. Back off the nut that holds the upper ball joint stud to the knuckle, until it is level with the end of the stud to prevent any bending while you work. Move the Ball Joint Remover 9360 underneath the boot near the top ball joint knuckle, separate the stud from the knuckle and remove the nut from that joint. Unscrew the nut attaching the tension strut ball joint stud to the knuckle until the end of the stud is level with it and during the process do not knock the seal boot out of place by working safely with the Ball Joint Remover 9360. Remove the nut from the end of the tension strut ball joint stud, then back off the nut attaching the stud to the lower control arm until it is even with the stud. Remove the stud from the lower control arm with the Ball Joint Remover 9360 and then remove the nut from the end of the stud connecting the lower control arm to the knuckle. Lastly, take the knuckle off the car. If you need to take out the hub and bearing, take care not to damage the hub's bore when you remove the dust cap. After that, slide the hub and bearing off the knuckle spindle by taking off the hub nut. If the shield has to come off the knuckle, take away the three screws and pull out the shield. Should you have to remove the ball joint from the lower control arm, stick to the disassembly steps.
