2009 Dodge Dakota A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Start by unplugging the negative battery cable when servicing the A/C compressor clutch. Eliminate the rubber band surrounding the engine and gearbox. Remove the engine wire harness from the connector at the top of the A/C compressor's clutch field coil. Remove the bolts holding the A/C compressor to the engine if that is needed and hold the compressor in place. Disconnect the A/C clutch coil connector and wire at the location indicated by bracket. To remove the bolt that holds the compressor shaft, use a band-type oil filter wrench to hold the clutch plate still. Make sure to hold the assembly together with the bearing and the pulley rather than prying apart the clutch plate. Keep the clutch shim(s) from falling out, as they can help you fit the clutch back on. With a plastic mallet, slightly tap the inside of the clutch plate so it comes away from the splines on the compressor shaft. After removing the clutch plate, then remove the shim as well. Remove the snap ring on the front of the compressor near the pulley and bearing using A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 and then take out the whole pulley and bearing assembly. Once more, use A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or a substitute to get rid of the snap ring that holds the A/C clutch coil to the front part of the A/C compressor and then remove the covered coil.
