2009 Dodge Dakota Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Service a Heater Core on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Bring the car to a safe location, unplug the negative battery cable and wait for 2 minutes in case the air bag is still live, since this is the only way to be certain you will not harm yourself when the heater core is removed. Don't separate the heater core tubes or service them in isolation, because cooling fluid might leak. First, take off the housing for the HVAC and put it on a workbench, then disassemble that housing. Damaged or sunken foam in the heater core surround must be changed. Lift the heater core gently from its position in the lower part of the HVAC housing. If needed, disconnect the rubber flange surrounding the heater core tubes, but be sure that if the flange has problems, it also needs to be replaced.
