2009 Dodge Dakota A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does the A/C Accumulator Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: During A/C refrigerant service, make sure the refrigerant oil is at the proper level so the system does not malfunction and the compressor is not damaged. If the A/C compressor has failed inside, the accumulator should be swapped out to keep the damage to the compressor from worsening. For multiple A/C system component replacements, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to decide the quantity of oil to add. When you have to remove only the A/C accumulator, use 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of the indicated refrigerant oil. Always install new O-ring seals and metal gaskets every time you disconnect a refrigerant line. First, put the mount bracket in place and tighten the nuts used to hold it to 6.8 Nm (60 in. lbs.). Secure the A/C accumulator on the mounting bracket for now, still being careful not to tighten any of the bracket bolts. Take off any tape or plugs on the connections, add a little clean oil to the seals and place them over the accumulator spring-lock coupler fitting on the proper O-rings for R-134a. Hook the spring-lock coupler onto the end of the evaporator outlet tube and then attach the secondary retaining clip. Screw the bolts of the accumulator bracket to 6.8 Nm (60 in. lbs.) and connect the A/C suction line to the A/C accumulator. Put the air filter housing in place and then reconnect the negative terminal cable to the battery. Release all refrigerant and, if changing the A/C accumulator, include 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of the advised refrigerant oil while filling up. After that, supply the refrigerant into the system.
