How to Safely Remove and Replace a Side Curtain Air Bag on 2009 Dodge Durango?

When replacing a side curtain air bag, disengage the SRS by separating and isolating the negative battery cable, give it two minutes and then you can safely work. Any vehicle with the HEV system should have the high voltage service disconnect handled by a trained expert. When handling an air bag unit, don't forget to wear rubber gloves, eye protection and a long-sleeved shirt. Remove both the headliner and the lower trim from the B-pillar on the car's interior. Take the side curtain air bag pigtail wire out of the connector of the body wire harness on the lower B-pillar and release both of the plastic retainers. Pull out the side curtain air bag front tether screw on the rivet nut in the inner A-pillar and unscrew the eight screws holding the air bag on the U-nuts in the inner roof rail and D-pillar. Remove the plastic retainers from the front tether to the inner A-pillar and for the right side air bag, remove them from the side rail just above the quarter window. With support for the side curtain air bag under the mounting located in the vehicle's roof, disconnect the three metal clips that are holding the unit and remove the air bag from the vehicle from the rear door opening.
