How to Install an Air Bag for Side Curtains on Dodge Durango?

First, turn off the Supplemental Rebraint System (SRS) by pulling out and isolating the negative battery cable for two minutes. In case of a HEV-equipped vehicle, always take out the high voltage service disconnect from the high voltage battery pack. Wear gloves, safety glasses and a long-sleeved shirt whenever you work with a deployed air bag because it may contain irritants. Check that the rivet nut 2 is set into the inner A-pillar and that U-nuts 3 are intact in the inner roof rail and inner D-pillar. Keep inflator 1 from falling by placing support below the non-deployed side curtain air bag while you install or remove it. Introduce side curtain air bag 4 to the interior of the vehicle from the door at the back, pressing the clips to secure the unit to the rail above the rear doors. On the A-pillar, insert two plastic retainers into the front tether of the right side air bag, then release it above the quarter window by engaging the plastic retainer. Fasten each of the eight screws to the U-nuts in the inner roof rail and D-pillar at 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.) and secure the front tether to the rivet nut in the A-pillar at 6 Nm (50 in. lbs.). Securely link the side curtain air bag pigtail wire connector 3 to body wire harness connector 2 on the lower inner B-pillar and hold the retainers of the pigtail in place in the B-pillar. Secure the lower trim around the B-pillar and the headliner into the car. First, do not reconnect the negative battery cable or HEV service disconnect; after all SRS maintenance is done, run the SRS verification procedure.

How to Safely Remove and Replace a Passenger Air Bag on Dodge Durango?

Putting the SRS in a disabled state, by removing the negative battery cable, cutting off current to the system and waiting two minutes, will make sure the system does not activate and risk your health. For cars that have the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system, the high voltage service disconnect from the high voltage battery pack must also be removed by a trained technician. When working with an air bag that has been deployed, it's important to cover your hands, eyes and arms. Take away the defroster grille from above the instrument panel, then remove the glove box as well. To reach the passenger air bag bracket, pull open the glove box, remove the two screws and lift out the bracket by its tabs.
