2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Driver Air Bag on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Bring the vehicle into park mode, then move the SRS switch on to the off position. Next, disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least two minutes so that the system's capacitor does not harm you. Always remember to use rubber gloves, protective eyewear and a long-sleeved shirt when touching surfaces on a deployed air bag, because the inners of the air bag may be irritating. Start by taking off the upper shroud from the steering column and move the column down to get to it more easily. If you have trouble seeing, try a small mirror to help you. Rotate the steering wheel so that each air bag retainer access hole is just above the twelve o'clock position. Take a short handled, flat-bladed screwdriver and insert it into any upper part of the vehicle, after which place the edge of the screwdriver against the inboard wire loop of the air bag snap retainer on the wheel's side and give the screwdriver handle a quarter turn to release the air bag from the wheel. Do the same for the other hole above and then for the lower access hole, making sure to notice that the lower snap retainer wire loop is shaped like a lowercase V. As soon as the air bag instead, be sure to move it out of the way so you can reach the connections at the back of the air bag housing. Press both integral latches and gently pull the air bag pigtail wire connector insulators out. In the end, uninstall the driver air bag from your steering wheel. If an air bag has been used, fix the Clock Spring and examine the steering column.
