2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: If you're changing the engine oil pan, first ensure the negative battery cable is disconnected. For now, install support fixture special tool 8534B without lifting the engine. Rely on a loose fit for all bolts holding down the two side engine mounts, but keep them in place. If you have a structural dust cover, lift it off and drain the oil out of the engine. Before removing the transmission fluid cooler lines, unplug them not only at the radiator, but at the transmission fittings and clips as well. Be sure to change out the clip on the oil pan stud, as its hold reduces during removal. With the engine slightly raised, take out the bottom crossmember and watch for clearance of the fan shroud to fan and the cowl to intake manifold. Employ special tool 8534B to lifted the engine until it is safe to remove the oil pan. Take out the oil pan mounting bolts (1 -17), then remove the oil pan, but don't use a tool to pry it loose or touch the oil pan gasket, since it is needed for the engine windage tray and doesn't come out with the pan. Lastly, unbolt the oil pump pickup tube and take it out, looking over the combined windage tray and gasket (2) to decide if any parts need replacement.
