2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Left Camshaft Installed on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The left camshaft should be placed with its camshaft sprocket dowel near the 1 o'clock mark and at the neutral position marked by a circled dot, so that installing the camshaft bearing caps is easier. At this stage, place the camshaft in the engine head and place the camshaft bearing caps so that the stamp numbers run from 1 to 4, with the arrows pointing to the front of the engine and thumb-tighten the camshaft retaining bolts. Secure the bearing cap retaining bolts in 1/2 turn measurements, as instructed by sequence, making sure they reach a tightness of 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Locate the camshaft drive gear on the timing chain and line up the V6 mark between the chain's two marked links. Twist the Camshaft Holder 8428A until the dowel in the camshaft sprocket slots into the slot on the casing, then secure the sprocket over the camshaft. Wipe off any extra oil on the camshaft sprocket bolt to stop over-torque and possible bolt damage and then install and hand tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt. Be sure to remove the Wedge Locking Tool 8379 before tightening the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.), using the Spanner Wrench 6958 with adapter pins 8346. Lastly, put in the cylinder head cover.
