2009 Jeep Commander A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an A/C Clutch on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: You should begin by cutting off and isolating the negative battery cable. Take out the drive belt from the engine. You need to disconnect the engine wire harness wire from the top of the compressor clutch field coil connection. Withdraw the bolts from the A/C compressor on the engine and help support the compressor using your hands. Use care when unhooking the compressor clutch field coil connector and with its wire lead from the connector bracket. Put on a band-type oil filter wrench or strap wrench, gear wrench or slip joint wrench to secure the clutch plate from rotating and then remove the bolt holding the compressor shaft. Make sure not to force anything between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing, to avoid damaging the clutch plate. Take care so that none of the clutch shim(s) falls out, as you can reuse them during reinstallation. Use a plastic mallet to gently tap the clutch plate next to the splines on the shaft to take it off and then remove the clutch plate and shim(s). Place Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or an equivalent tool into the recessed hole and remove the snap ring, then pull out the pulley and bearing assembly. Following this, take out the snap ring holding the compressor clutch field coil to the front of the A/C compressor and remove the coil using the same snap ring pliers.
