2009 Jeep Commander A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does the A/C Expansion Valve Prevent Compressor Damage in a Refrigerant System on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Fixing the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system is necessary to protect the A/C compressor motor. If you're changing several A/C system parts, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to see how much oil each part requires. Whenever a refrigerant line is accessed, be sure to replace the O-ring seals and gaskets so leaking doesn't occur. To start, eliminate the tape or plugs from the rear evaporator tube, opened underbody refrigerant line and all ports on the rear expansion valve. Rub clean refrigerant oil inside the new O-rings and then put them over the rear evaporator hose connectors with just the suggested O-rings for R-134a systems. Put the rear A/C expansion valve (2) onto the rear evaporator tube tapping block (3) and attach it using two bolts (1), tightening each to a torque of 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Apply clean refrigerant oil to the rubber O-ring seals, put them on the back underbody fittings and then attach the underbody lines (2) to the valve (3) and tighten the nut (1) to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Cover the rear heater core tubes (5) with the rear heater hoses (6) and join them with the clamps. Put in the right rear quarter liner and tire and wheel assembly and after that, bring the car down to the ground. Redo the negative battery cable, top up the engine cooling system, remove unwanted refrigerant from the system, add the proper refrigerant oil and charge the refrigerant system.
