2009 Jeep Liberty Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Camshaft on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before mounting a new camshaft, lubricate it with clean oil, position so that the camshaft dowel points toward 10 o'clock and set the bearing caps in the neutral position for an easier installation. Then, place the camshaft into the cylinder head and install the camshaft bearing caps, hand tightening all the retaining bolts while making certain the numbers and arrows on the caps are arranged in numerical order from forward to rear. After that, tighten the bearing cap retaining bolts in 1/2 turns each, following the sequence and then tighten them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Put the camshaft drive gear onto the timing chain and place the V6 mark (1) between the two marks on the timing chain links. Turn the camshaft using the Camshaft Holder 8428A (2) so that the dowel in the camshaft sprocket fits the corresponding slot. Once done, mount the sprocket onto the camshaft. You should clean the camshaft sprocket bolt to ensure it won't get over-tightened and risk breaking. Once that's done, add the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt, tightening it by hand and then pull out the timing chain wedge special tool number 8379 (1). Using adapter pins 8346 and the Spanner Wrench 6958, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). After that, place the camshaft position sensor (3) in position and close the cylinder head cover.
