2009 Jeep Liberty Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove a timing cover on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
A: You should disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and run the cooling system until it runs dry before removing the engine timing cover. You should then unbolt and remove the cooling fan assembly and then remove the fan and the fan drive unit from their existing place. At the timing cover, release both heater hoses and unhook the lower radiator hose from the engine. Pull the accessory drive belt tensioner assembly (1) out and take off the crankshaft damper afterward. Then, take out the generator and the A/C compressor. Be aware that the 3.7L engine seals the front cover to the block with an anaerobic sealer rather than a gasket; use Mopar(R) Grey Engine RTV sealant for service. Timing cover removal does not require that the water pump be taken out. Next, unscrew the bolts that tie the timing cover to the block and set aside the cover.
