2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before touching the compressor clutch, you need to lower the vehicle's battery voltage by disconnecting the negative battery cable, then jack the vehicle up and put supports under it. Take out the belly pan and the accessory belt that comes with the engine. Take off the engine wire harness from the top A/C clutch coil connector. Open the battery cage, remove the clip and carefully take away the A/C clutch connector and wire lead. You should use a band- or strap-type oil filter wrench to stop the clutch plate from spinning which will allow you to take out the shaft bolt. Do not insert anything between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly to save damage to the clutch plate. Take care that no clutch shim(s) are lost during clutch plate removal since they can be reused during reassembly. Using a plastic mallet, carefully tap the clutch plate to loosen it from the compressor shaft splines and next remove both the clutch plate and any shim(s). Equipped with Snap Ring Pliers 9764, take away the securing snap ring and remove the pulley and bearing from the front of the A/C compressor. With the Snap Ring Pliers, cut the small ring off the clutch coil where it sits at the front end of the A/C compressor and then take out the coil.
