2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service an A/C Refrigerant System and Ensure Proper Evaporator Installation on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: It is necessary to adjust the refrigerant oil level during service to avoid malfunctioning in the A/C and protect the compressor. Should only the A/C evaporator be changed, pour in approximately 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of the recommended oil into the system. Change the O-ring seals along the refrigerant lines any time they are opened in order to prevent leaks. A damaged foam insulator for the A/C evaporator or its tubes should be replaced. It is important to fit the AC evaporator and tubes into the lower part of the HVAChousing, clean the drain and set the insulators in the right place. After that, mount the flange to the top half of the HVAC housing and tighten it in place with two screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Should the foam seal around the flange be broken, it needs to be substituted. The process goes: attach the foam seal to the flange, then connect the air inlet housing to the HVAC housing and last, place the air distribution housing on the HVAC housing. Next, install the whole HVAC housing assembly. Always remember to add 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil when replacing the A/C evaporator or follow the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart for different component replacements and add only the recommended oil for the vehicle's compressor.
