2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before fitting the Clock Spring assembly, first unhook and isolate the negative terminal of the battery to turn off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and then let the system capacitor discharge by waiting two minutes. The included plastic locking pin in the replacement Clock Spring comes set and needs to remain in until you install the steering wheel or you'll need to re-center it. Align the steering wheel to the center and secure the steering with the steering lock before going any further. If a new Clock Spring is used, move the multifunction switch jumper harness from the old unit or simply attach a new harness. Slide the Clock Spring along the top of the steering shaft and attachment the wire connectors to the back of the Clock Spring assembly. Drop the Clock Spring onto the top end of the steering column lock and fasten it by screwing in three screws, beginning at the lower right corner, then the upper left and finishing at upper right and tighten them all to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.). Put in the left and right multifunction switches, then install the upper and lower steering column shrouds. Raise the steering column to its highest spot and lock it before putting back the steering wheel. After that, remove the plastic locking pin from the Clock Spring rotor and center the rotor by refitting the negative battery cable.
