2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Access and Replace the Neutral Safety Switch in a 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The valve body assembly must be taken out in order to access the transmission range sensor. Attach the transmission range sensor and tighten the screw so the torque reading is 5 Nm or 45 in. lbs. After that, put the manual shaft seal in place and then guide the park rod rollers into the guide bracket as you replace the valve body back into the transaxle case. Tighten all bolts that secure the valve body to the case by turning them to 12 Nm or 105 in. lbs. Set the oil filter in place and check the o-ring for any damage-replace it if necessary. Take a 1/8' narrow bead of RTV and insert the oil pan into the case, making sure the oil pan bolts have 19 Nm (165 in. lbs.) of torque. Drop the vehicle to the ground and link the connector for the transmission range sensor. Put the manual valve lever onto the manual valve and continue by linking the gear shift cable to the lever. After reinstalling the battery tray, replace the battery and secure the hold down clamp, add the air cleaner assembly and then the battery cables. The last step is to put ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid-Type 9602) into the transaxle.
