Chrysler 300M Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an Evaporator Core on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
The evaporator core is changed following the removal of the negative Battery Cable from the remote post which you should take off after opening the hood. Be sure to safely remove all refrigerant with a recovery machine before you begin, because the system's A/C lines coming from the Thermostatic Expansion Valve must be removed and the equipment fitted ends properly covered to stop moisture from getting in. After that, remove the heater housing from the vehicle, then take out both the recirculation door actuator and the recirculation door itself with its housing. Next, untighten the screws holding the heater housing together, lift the top off and remove the evaporator. Underneath the new evaporator, put the evaporator probe in the same spot as before. When installing, follow the steps described for removing the old one.
  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Evaporator on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
Before handling the A/C evaporator, turn off the air bag by removing the negative Battery Cable and waiting for two minutes so the capacitor discharges. Remove the HVAC housing from the car and then take away the recirculation door actuator, recirculation door and housing. Remove the screws for the upper HVAC housing, find the evaporator probe access plate near the middle of the housing and use a flat blade to pull back the locking tab. Turn the access plate counterclockwise one-quarter turn and push it inside the HVAC before removing the upper half and taking out the evaporator. Transfer the evaporator probe to the same place as the old one, add the evaporator to the bottom part of the HVAC housing and lock the access plate. Rotate the plate by one-quarter turn in the counterclockwise direction to attach it, then join the upper half of the HVAC housing with the lower half and fasten it with 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Put in the recirculation door and housing, fastening the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) and then install the door actuator. Take out the HVAC housing, empty the A/C system and add charge to it as needed.
