Chrysler Cirrus Power Steering Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Power Steering Reservoir on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
The first step in service is to pull out as much power steering fluid from the reservoir with a siphon pump. Lift the vehicle and remove the hose clamp that is holding the power steering fluid hose to the pump. This will allow both the hose and reservoir to drain until they're empty. Don't apply strong force to remove or install hoses on the reservoir to keep the nipples unbroken. Then, loosen the power steering fluid hoses from their places in the reservoir, take out the bolts that hold the reservoir to the engine and take the reservoir out of the vehicle. When installing, position the replacement reservoir on the cylinder head and attach and tighten the bolts. Attach the return hose and supply hose to the reservoir fittings and place both hose clamps so they are past the upset bead on the fittings. Lift the vehicle once more and link the power steering supply hose to the suction opening on the pump until the hose clamp is past the upset bead on the steel tube. Pour fluid into the power steering reservoir so it reaches the correct level, turn on the engine for a few seconds, switch it off and add more if needed, doing this until the fluid level no longer lowers as you run the engine. Once the front wheels are lifted, start the engine, steer to the right and left gently until you feel the wheel stops, shut the engine and refill the oil if low. Lower your vehicle, lock the steering wheel from one side to the other and turn off the engine to see how much fluid you need and add some if it is low. Should the fluid be very bubbly, leave the vehicle for a few minutes before you try again.
