Before servicing the
Piston ring, first take out the piston and connect it to the rod. Take the piston rings at No. 1 and No. 2 off the piston using a ring expander tool and then pull out the upper and lower oil ring side rails as well as the oil ring expander. After that, measure how much gap there is between the piston rings, the cylinder and the piston itself. Be sure the No. 2 piston ring is fitted so that the mark (dot) given by the manufacturer faces upwards toward the top of the piston. Start by fitting the oil expander, then add the upper oil ring side rail, followed by the lower oil ring side rail, next put in No. 2 intermediate piston ring and finally add No. 1 upper piston ring. To install the side rail, tuck one end between the groove for the piston ring and the expander, secure it and gently press the rail down until it is in place, skipping the use of the piston ring expander. After installing the upper side rail, place in the lower side rail, then torch in the No. 2 piston ring and finally insert the No. 1 piston ring. Arrange piston ring end gaps and make the oil ring expander gap 45° away from the side rail gaps, avoiding positions either on the piston pin center or in the thrust area for better oil control.
