RESET Steering before you touch the Clock Spring Assembly. Pop open the hood and take the negative
Battery Cable out. Wait for about two minutes so the
Air Bag system reserve capacitor releases its charge to lessen the risk of the air bag deploying by itself which could seriously harm or kill anyone inside. Take off the air bag next to the
Steering Wheel, followed by the steering wheel from its place in the
Steering Column. After that, remove the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column. Separate the two end connectors for the Clock Spring from the receptacles at the bottom of the steering column, at the back of the Clock Spring. Remove the two screws that hold the Clock Spring case to the mounting housing of the multi-function switch and then remove the Clock Spring from that housing. The Clock Spring cannot be repaired and needs to be swapped out when it fails, suffers damage or the driver air bag has been activated. Should you reuse the Clock Spring, hold the Clock Spring rotor in place on the Clock Spring case until it is fixed on the steering column; otherwise, the Clock Spring should be carefully centered again.
