How to Safely and Correctly Remove a Steering Wheel on Chrysler Sebring?

When taking out the steering wheel, confirm the tires are facing forward, connect the negative battery cable to disable the air bags so they won't unwittingly deploy. Don't proceed until the air bag system capacitor discharges for two minutes. Remove the driver air bag and take out the wiring connector at the Clock Spring. Once the wheel is clamped down, unbolt the connection between the steering wheel and the steering shaft. It's important not to tap or hit the steering wheel or its column during this step. Place a wheel puller with hooked legs onto the steering shaft. Be sure not to spin the Clock Spring rotor after removing the steering wheel, because it should stay in place to avoid harm. If you are unsure where the Clock Spring goes, center it with the procedure before fixing the steering wheel. After that, still keeping the wheel straight ahead, slide the wheel puller onto the steering column shaft and remove the wheel from the splines.

How to Properly Install a Steering Wheel on Chrysler Sebring?

The front wheels need to be pointing straight forward and the turn signal stalk should be placed in the center, before you begin. Don't drive the steering wheel onto the column that runs through the steering wheel. Set the wide part of the steering wheel's spline against the shaft's missing part on the column and push the wheel onto the shaft, checking it does not get caught when the Clock Spring lines up with the back of the wheel. Bolt the steering wheel into place, then tighten it to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) using a torque wrench to make sure it stays on the shaft. Next, slide the puller out and reattach the previously removed speed control screw. Once that's done, join the wiring connector (2) to the Clock Spring. Before connecting the battery negative to the air bag, install the driver air bag (3), since the system requires an air bag System Test first. Perform the air bag System Test as outlined in Restraints, finally attach the battery and check the vehicle operation.
