The first thing to do is take off the cylinder head cover, next take out the
Camshaft Position Sensor and then unfasten the camshaft target magnet. Following that, take off the
Timing Belt, remove the camshaft sprockets and detach the rear cover from the timing belt. Bearing caps must be identified by their position, beginning by unscrewing the outside bearing caps. Depress the camshaft bearing cap attaching fasteners following the given sequence, for each camshaft at a time. Since cams cannot be swapped, always start with cam 6, as its thrust bearing face spacing is wider. Locate the camshaft before uninstalling from the head and write down the rockers' original positions if you are also taking those off. Use a suitable cleaner to clean the camshaft and check if the camshaft bearing journals look damaged or bound, look at the cylinder head for signs of damage and make sure the oil holes are open. Review the cam lobe and bearings for unusual signs of wear and damage and if the camshaft is defective, change it out. If you find that the camshaft lobe measures more than the standard 0.0254 mm (0.001 in.) or the limit 0.254 mm (0.010 in.), replace it. Ensure while installing that none of the
Pistons are at top dead center. Apply oil to every camshaft bearing journal,
Rocker Arm and camshaft lobe and then place the reused rocker arms back in their original points. Set the camshafts on the cylinder head bearing journals and install the right and left camshaft bearing caps No. 2 - 5 and right No. 6 with tightness of M6 fasteners to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), using the recommended order. Place a drop of Mopar Gasket Maker on bearing caps No. 1 and No. 6, lower the bearing caps and tighten the M8 fasteners to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). You need to fit the end caps first, before attaching the seals. You should now fit the camshaft oil seals, install the camshaft target magnet, fit the camshaft position sensor, cover up the cylinder head with the cover, install the timing belt rear cover, put the camshaft target magnet in place, install the camshaft sprockets and secure the timing belt.
