Always inspect the springs, lever, adjuster and aluminum pin to look for wear or damage before installing the parking brake shoes. Insert the lower brake shoe hold-down pin (7) through the rear of the support (2), then place the lower brake shoe (6) against the support plate (2), securing it with the lower brake shoe hold-down clip. After that, insert the shoe actuator lever (1) into the end of the
Parking Brake Cable (2), so that the word "UP" is visible. After installing the return spring, set the upper shoe onto the support plate and onto the lever of the shoe actuator. Connect the upper brake shoe with the hold-down pin (7) and the clip and add the return spring (4) to the upper shoe (6). Put the shoe adjuster (8) in place, so the star wheel faces upstairs and then slide the parking brake shoe adjuster spring (3) into its spot. Measure the inside diameter of the parking brake drum part of the rotor with the Brake Shoe Gauge, C-3919 or something equivalent and set the gauge. Place the gauge over the parking brake shoes at the widest place and use the adjuster star wheel (2) to adjust the shoes so the linings just touch the jaws of the gauge. After that, add the hub and bearing, along with the wheel speed sensor and all required bits, lift the vehicle and adjust the parking brake shoes.
