Before cleaning the cup holders, first turn off the air bags by unplugging the battery ground cable, wait two minutes so the air bag system discharges and then proceed to detail the cup holders. When the cup holder feels stuck or is hard to release, carefully pull out the center part and the air bag release button cover. You should then remove the four screws underneath. Remove the screen from the dash first. To repair, carefully lift the ACM side cover with a trim tool C-4755 or one of the same kind and remove it. Remove the ACM cover, then check: If the cup holder is impossible to operate, there must be something blocking them. Should the ACM still bind, replace the cover and check whether there's space between the ACM cover and the cup holder. Should contact occur, move the cover until there is space between the plastic and the ignition lock. Inspect the wire harness running just under the carpet; if you notice it pushes the ACM cover up, either move the harness or remove some padding from the carpet. Double-check that plastic retainers are not causing trouble and the harness is not placed above a raised platform. After you make the changes, get the cup holder out and try it out on a flat surface away from your car. If the mount feels solidly connected, don't replace it. If it holds the cup holder loosely and wiggles, check the metal holder for bends. Fix the bracket if it is bent and restore it on the bracket assembly. Unlock the cup holder and lock it inside the instrument panel; install four screws with a wrench set to 2.2 N.m (20 in.lbs.); then, open the cup holder and screw two more bolts with the same wrench pressure. Afterward, install both the center bezel and the cover over the air bag control module.
