- Q: How to Maintain an Ashtray on Dodge Durango?A:Before working on the ash receiver, turn off the air bag system by removing and disconnecting the negative cable from the battery, then wait two minutes for the air bag capacitor to discharge. Take off the cluster bezel from the instrument panel and open the ash receiver on its lower bezel. Slide a trim stick or a suitable large flat-bladed tool along the edge between the ash receiver housing and instrument panel to release the hook flanges from the housing. Withdraw the ash receiver and housing unit to the rear, so you can reach and remove the wire harness connector for the cigar lighter from its receptacle on the rear of the lighter. Pull out the ash receiver and the housing unit from the instrument panel lower bezel. During installation, set the ash receiver and housing unit into their places in the instrument panel, attach the wire harness connector for the cigar lighter, then push the two tabs on the ash receiver housing into the instrument panel lower bezel to lock them in place. Press the tabs on the top of the ash receiver housing into their receptacles and press up with firm force to secure everything. Reclaim the clusters bezel and make sure the negative battery cable is connected.

After that, push the ashtray assembly 1 all the way into the instrument panel until the green or black snap retainers click into place. Then, fit the gear shift center bezel onto the floor console 4, move the gear lever into Park and let the emergency brake go. Next, put back the negative battery cable securely.
