Ignition coils used in Dodge Dakota vehicles have ranged from the distributor ignition coils, the coil pack ignition coils, and direct ignition coils. Dodge Dakota Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install an Ignition Coil in a 3.7L Engine on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Initially, blow away dirt from the top of the spark plug with compressed air before installing the ignition coil. Inspect o-ring (2) and replace it if there are any signs of damage; use some silicone to help with the installation. Insert the coil's base into the hole and push the coil so the spark plug stands on top, lining the mounting stud with the base. Place the coil mounting stud nut (2) in the threaded hole and tighten it to 8 Nm (70 in.lbs) Snap the connector onto the coil and if you are furnished with a tube for the throttle body, fit that in place as well.
  • Q: How to Remove an Individual Ignition Coil on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
A separate individual ignition coil is fitted flush into a hole in the cylinder head and attached to the top of the Intake Manifold with a stud/nut. There is a rubber boot at the base of the coil that covers the spark plug and uses a spring for contact with the spark plug's top; both remain permanent and are not taken apart for replacement. The coil is sealed at the cylinder head opening with an O-ring. When trying to remove a coil, it may be helpful to remove the throttle body air intake tube or intake box to get adequate access. First, push the release lock down on the electrical connector and pull it firmly away. Add some compressed air to clean the area around the coil base, then take off the mounting nut from the stud once you are ready. Now, pull the tow cable out of the cylinder head with a little bit of a rotation and take it out of your vehicle.
