Dodge Journey Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Tie Rod End on Dodge Journey?
    A:
Before you service the inner tie rod, remove the outer tie rod and then detach the tie rod jam nut from the inner tie rod. To remove the inner tie rod, unlock and remove the heat shield-securing screws and push-pins and then lift away the heat shield from above the bellows. From that point, take off the clamp holding the bellows to the inner tie rod and the one holding them to the steering gear body and then remove the bellows itself. Afterward, pull out the travel restrictor from where it's located on the inner tie rod. Remove the inner tie rod by using the correct tool on the rod's hex shape. Should the inner tie rod not budge, resist temptation to hit or heat it, as this could result in the steering gear being too damaged to repair, meaning you'd have to replace the entire Rack And Pinion assembly. After that, remove the inner tie rod from the steering gear.
