Start by taking the load away from the battery negative cable, allowing the air bag reserve capacitor time to drain before removing the air bag, to keep it from being accidentally deployed. Behind the wheel, open the two screw covers beside you and remove the attached screws to open the driver air bag assembly. Do not pull on the horn switch feed pigtail wire to stop any harm to the horn switch membrane or feed circuit. Pull the air bag away from the car just enough to disconnect the connectors for the two air bag squibs and the horn and then calmly separate the driver air bag from the
Steering Wheel. The driver air bag trim cover is sold separately; if either the horn switch or the cover is broken, the bag cushion can be connected to a new trim cover. Should the air bag be faulty, the full driver air bag assembly, along with its trim cover, must be fitted as one piece.
