The Camshaft Position Sensor of automobiles particularly the Dodge Neon models is an important mechanism that determines the position and the rate of the camshaft. What is more, it is sent to the engine control module (ECM) to manage fuel injectors and ignition time to allow the optimum performance of the engine. Usually the Dodge Neon Camshaft Position Sensor is located just above the camshaft, however, the location might differ according to the model. Through the years various types of Camshaft Position Sensors were installed in the Dodge Neon cars, primarily together with crank sensors to premier synchronize the position of the engine pistons and valves. This pairing is particularly crucial to engines with variable valve timing as it results to accurate fuel injection timing. Camshaft Position Sensor is a critical component, even minor problem with the sensor affects the performance of Dodge Neon tremendously.

Dodge Neon Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on Dodge Neon?
    A:
You'll find the Camshaft position sensor placed at the back of the cylinder head. Start by unplugging the brake booster hose and electrical connector from the ends of the cylinder head cover and then move them back into position. After that, take out the electrical connectors and the mounting screws to remove the camshaft position sensor from its place. Free the screw binding the target magnet to the camshaft's rear end. To mount the target magnet, insert it into the camshaft end so the locating dowels fit into the machined holes, then tighten the screw to 3.4 Nm (30 in. lbs.) and be careful not to over-tighten, since this may cause the magnet to crack and it must be replaced if it gets broken. After that, fix the camshaft position sensor and screw it until the torque is 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Lastly, slide the brake booster hose and electrical harness into their places on the valve cover holders and then reattach the electrical wires to the camshaft position sensor.
