The Clutch Slave Cylinder found in Dodge neon automobiles is an essential part of the manual transmission mechanism and is duty-bound to working hand in hand with another component called the clutch master cylinder with the primary responsibility of disengaging the clutch anytime the clutch pedal is depressed. This hydraulic part translates the force exerted by the driver into hydraulic pressure which using a hydraulic tube that pushes a rod backwards that in turn pushes a lever or a fork to facilitate gear shift without damaging the gears. Dodge Neon models apply hydraulic clutch slave cylinder system as it is more effective as compared to mechanical clutches. Any complications for instance, improper rubber bite, low brake fluid or viscid leakage should be corrected on the clutch slave cylinder in order not to ruin the drivability or the transmission. It is therefore important, to ensure that the Dodge Neon clutch slave cylinder is maintained and repaired on regular basis.

Dodge Neon Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Clutch Slave Cylinder on Dodge Neon?
    A:
To get to the clutch master cylinder, pull the car up on a hoist and then use service tool 6638A to release the clutch cylinder from the quick connect. Removal of the lateral bending brace on the left side precedes removing the damper bracket screws and slave cylinder bolts which can then be lifted out of the vehicle. Before installation, set the new slave cylinder assembly on the transaxle and begin the damper and slave cylinder fasteners with your hands. For 2.0L, set the slave cylinder bolts-to-transaxle bolts to 19 Nm (168 inch lbs.) first, then tighten the damper nuts to 24 Nm (215 inch lbs.) and follow the same procedure for the 1.6L. Secure the clutch hydraulic supply tube and check that it clicks by pulling it out a bit. Reinstall the left lateral bending brace on a 2.0L model and make sure the car is lowered afterwards. Make certain that the clutch master cylinder reservoir is completely full and contain DOT 3 brake fluid when needed. Pump the clutch pedal only ten times; if ten times passes and there is still too much air, you'll have to bleed the hydraulics system. After that, make sure the clutch release system is operating well and cut anything securing the slave cylinder in position to avoid high pedal effort once installed.
