Dodge Nitro Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Service the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) by making sure the SRS is disabled, cutting off the negative battery connection and waiting two minutes. Be careful not to hit or drop the stabilizer, as doing so will almost certainly harm the impact sensor and result in a module replacement. Change the ORC and OCM one at a time, checking the SRS after installing the first module to avoid accidentally fixing a fault. Connective Party Removing the full ORC including its molded plastic bracket that is installed on all replacement units. Start by taking out the negative cable from the battery and give the capacitor a few seconds to discharge. After that, remove the center console from its position at the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Push down the release tabs beside the connectors and then lift the lever arms to remove the body wire harness connector and the instrument panel wire harness connector from the ORC's receptacles. After that, loosen and remove the two nuts on the left side of the ORC mounting bracket where it touches the ORC mount welded onto the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Finish by taking out the two screws on the right side of the ORC mounting bracket. The ORC and mounting bracket unit come loose at the end and should be removed from the ORC holder.
  • Q: How to Install the Air Bag Control Module on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Before you install the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), first shut off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by disconnecting the negative battery, waiting two minutes and then isolating the battery to allow the capacitor to drain. Attach the ORC and its plastic mounting bracket to the two studs on the left side of the ORC's base, while keeping the arrow on the label toward the front of the car. Attach the right side of the ORC mounting bracket with two screws and tighten them to 10.5 Nm (95 in. lbs.) and attach the left side using two nuts, again tightened to 10.5 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Join the two wire harness connector ends to the ORC connector receptacles, with all latches secured. Put the center console back onto the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Do not connect the battery negative cable back to the vehicle until the SRS is checked following service to any SRS element.
