The Heater Core in Dodge Nitro vehicles has the function of delivering hot air to the vehicle's cabin when the heating system is on. Like a radiator the Heater Core uses water and antifreeze to heat the car interior while transferring excessive heat from the engine. Made of aluminum or brass with fins to improve the heat transfer rates and has a fan which draw air across it to warm the cabin. There might be some features like, valves for controlling the flow of coolants, doors to isolate the core or other parts of the automobile. In more complex systems, electromechanical actuators may be employed for fine tuning of the temperature. Some of the problems that some owners face with their Heater Core include clogging, leaks and corrosion and repairing this part calls for the disconnection of the dashboard. In a nutshell, Heater Core is vital when it comes to temperature regulation in Dodge Nitro cars to provide comfort.

Dodge Nitro Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Heater Core on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
The first step to changing the heater core is to stop the air bag system by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable, then allow two minutes for the system capacitor to drain. The heater core tubes should not be fixed or taken apart because that could result in a coolant leak. Start by taking apart the HVAC housing assembly and put it on a workbench. After that, remove the air distribution housing from inside the HVAC housing. Undo the screws holding the upper front passenger side floor duct to the passenger side of the air distribution housing and take the duct out. Should the foam between the tube and the heater core tube flange become damaged or deformed, you'll need a replacement. First, remove the foam around the heater core tube flange and then remove the screw that gently holds the flange to the air distribution housing. Pull the plastic retainer off the heater core tubes and remove the flange too. A bumped or leaking foam insulator needs to be replaced. Next, press down on the plastic retaining tabs on the passenger side of the housing and, carefully, remove the heater core from its place.
