Begin by directing the front wheels up-straight and erecting the car to support the working area. Get rid of the cap on each fluid hose from the rack and pinion, untighten the bolt in the coupler and pull the coupler off the rack and pinion stub shaft. Before you use Puller C-4150A to remove the pitman arm, mark the pitman shaft and pitman arm as a guide for installation. After that, take out the rack and pinion bracket bolts and nuts before removing the rack and pinion and bracket. Take out the bolts that connect the gear assembly to remove the gear mounting bracket. To install the rack and pinion, set the mounting bracket on the gear, fit the mounting bolts and tighten them at 142 Nm or 105 ft. lbs. Screw the rack and pinion and bracket onto the frame rail and secure them with bolts and nuts, tightening them using a torque wrench to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Put the index marks on the coupler shaft in line with the rack and pinion and steering shaft, then secure the coupler with new bolts, tightening each to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). Install the washer and nut on the pitman shaft and fasten the nuts to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Place the hoses from the fluid system onto the steering mechanism and add a tightness of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) to the hose fittings. After that, take out the support and settle the vehicle, filling the brake fluid as required.
