Dodge Ram 2500 Turn Signal Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to Service a Turn Signal Switch on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
To service the turn signal switch, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. If applicable, unscrew the lever from the tilt steering column adjuster mechanism located on the left side of the column just below the multi-function switch stalk by turning it counterclockwise. Remove both the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column, followed by the lower fixed column shroud. Move the upper fixed column shroud to access the back of the multi-function switch, then remove the tamper proof mounting screws using a Snap On tamper proof Torx bit TTXR2OB2 or equivalent. Gently pull the multi-function switch away from the steering column to access and remove the screw securing the instrument panel wire harness connector to the multi-function switch connector receptacle, then disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector. Remove the multi-function switch from the steering column. For installation, position the multi-function switch onto the steering column and reconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector to the multi-function switch connector receptacle. Install and tighten the screw securing the instrument panel wire harness connector to the multi-function switch connector receptacle to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), then install and tighten the two screws securing the multi-function switch to the steering column to the same torque specification. Install the lower fixed column shroud, followed by both the upper and lower shrouds onto the steering column. If applicable, install the tilt steering column lever onto the left side of the steering column by screwing it into place, and finally reconnect the battery negative cable.
  • Q:
How to Install a Turn Signal Switch in a Multifunction Steering Column on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
To install the switch, first disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable and wait two minutes to allow the SRS capacitor to discharge to prevent accidental deployment of the air bag. The multi-function switch should be slid into the multi-function switch mounting housing from the left-hand side with the alignment pins. In order to install the switch to the mounting housing and tighten the two screws to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), rotate the Steering Wheel. Insert the connect the wire harness connector at backside of switch housing. Place the lower shroud on the steering column and install and tighten the centre screw to secure it to the steering column to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). When the automobile is equipped with an automatic transmission, ensure that the gap hider of the gearshift lever gets engaged. Place the upper shroud on the lower shroud. Position the upper shroud snap features over their respective lower shroud receptacles and apply downward hand pressure to engage them. The two outboard screws securing the upper shroud to the lower shroud are to be installed and tightened to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Align the tilt steering column knob with the tilt adjuster actuator on the left side of the steering column and install it by tightening the screw to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Ultimately, you must replace the battery's negative cable.
