Dodge Ram 3500 Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
To service or repair the clutch release bearing, remove the transmission and transfer case if your vehicle has them, take off the spring clip and unhook the release bearing from the release fork before removal. Check the slide surface of the front retainer at the transmission and if it has scored, wear or cracks, replace the retainer. Look at the release lever and pivot stud to make sure the stud is secure and check that the fork has not become distorted or worn out; replace any bent or cracked fork spring clips. Apply Mopar high temperature bearing grease to the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide surface, lever pivot ball stud and release lever pivot surface. Set the release fork and release bearing in the release tube, securing them with spring clips and placing the raised edge of the release fork against the slave cylinder side of the transmission. Install the clutch housing again, then set the transmission and transfer case back and then look at the Clutch Master Cylinder fluid level.
  • Q: How to install a Release Bearing on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before fitting the Clutch Release Bearing, take a look at the bearing slide's surface on the transmission front bearing retainer and change the retainer if the surface is worn, cracked or scored. In the next step, verify that both the pivot stud and release lever are secure and undamaged; whenever the fork spring clips are rusted or broken, replace them. Coat the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, pivot stud and release lever pivot with Mopar high temperature bearing grease. Now, attach the release fork and release bearing, making certain they are held in place by the spring clips and that the raised edge on the lever's rear is near the slave cylinder side of the transmission. After everything is finished, put in the transmission and transfer case.
