How to Service an Axle Shaft Seal on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

You should park the vehicle on a hoist in neutral before beginning the service on the axle shaft seals. Take away the calipers and rotors and then the speed sensors from the top of the axle tube flange. After that, loosen and remove the axle flange nuts from the axle. Work the shaft and backing plate out of the axle tube until the axle bearing appears and at that point pull out the O-ring from the axle bearing. Remove the axle shaft from inside the axle tube and the backing plate. The new O-ring should be put on the axle, with the axle shaft sliding off the axle tube and back behind the backing plate. Pass the O-ring through the backing plate, insert the axle so the bearing opens up and put another O-ring on the axle bearing from the outside. Put the axle into the axle tube and hold it in place with the axle flange nuts, fastening them until they reach 119 Nm. Do the final step by putting the speed sensors in the axle tube flange and reinstalling both the calipers and rotors.

How to Service an Axle Shaft Seal on the 181 FBI Axle on Jeep Wrangler?

To service the axle shaft seals of the 181 FBI Axle first support the vehicle and raise it, then remove the differential assembly. You can take out the inner axle shaft seals using a pry bay. Make sure that the sealer from the old seals is cleaned out prior to installing it and if there is any sealer between the axle tube and the housing be sure to clean it out as well. Use Discs 8110 and Turnbuckle 6797 to install the new oil seals, tightening the tool until the Disc bottoms in the housing. Install the differential assembly and fill it with fluid after the seals are in place, together with removal of the support and lowering the vehicle.

A:
You should park the vehicle on a hoist in neutral before beginning the service on the axle shaft seals. Take away the calipers and rotors and then the speed sensors from the top of the axle tube flange. After that, loosen and remove the axle flange nuts from the axle. Work the shaft and backing plate out of the axle tube until the axle bearing appears and at that point pull out the O-ring from the axle bearing. Remove the axle shaft from inside the axle tube and the backing plate. The new O-ring should be put on the axle, with the axle shaft sliding off the axle tube and back behind the backing plate. Pass the O-ring through the backing plate, insert the axle so the bearing opens up and put another O-ring on the axle bearing from the outside. Put the axle into the axle tube and hold it in place with the axle flange nuts, fastening them until they reach 119 Nm. Do the final step by putting the speed sensors in the axle tube flange and reinstalling both the calipers and rotors.

To service the axle shaft seals of the 181 FBI Axle first support the vehicle and raise it, then remove the differential assembly. You can take out the inner axle shaft seals using a pry bay. Make sure that the sealer from the old seals is cleaned out prior to installing it and if there is any sealer between the axle tube and the housing be sure to clean it out as well. Use Discs 8110 and Turnbuckle 6797 to install the new oil seals, tightening the tool until the Disc bottoms in the housing. Install the differential assembly and fill it with fluid after the seals are in place, together with removal of the support and lowering the vehicle.
