Jeep Commander Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Heater Core in the Rear on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before putting the rear heater core in, place the foam seals and line up both retaining tabs. If you don't have the original heater core tubes anymore, remove all the O-ring seals, lubricate any new ones with clean engine coolant and fit them onto the heater core tubes, using the unique O-ring designed for the cooling system. Connect each of the heater core tubes to the heater core and make sure to use two retaining clamps to secure them. After that, bend the bottom flange at the back of the rear HVAC apart a bit and set the heater core tubes into the flange. If the foam seal on the flange is worn or torn, put on a new one before going on a trip. Flush the cooling system when you have the heater core replaced. Then, put the rear HVAC housing into place.
  • Q: How to Remove and Service a Heater Core on Jeep Commander?
    A:
First, take out the HVAC housing from the rear and keep it outside on a workbench. Carefully remove the foam cover from the flange at the rear HVAC; a damaged or dented foam needs to be swapped out. Pull the inside side of the flange down a bit to release the tubes from the heater core flange. Take off the two tabs holding the rear heater core, carefully remove it from the back of the HVAC housing and make sure to change any damaged foam seals on the heater core as you go. If it becomes necessary, take out the heater core tubes from the rear heater core and toss out the O-ring seals.
