Jeep Commander Instrument Cluster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Install an Instrument Cluster to Ensure Proper Functionality on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before installing, you need to shut down the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by removing and isolating the battery negative cable and waiting for two minutes so that the system capacitor discharges. Bring the instrument cluster next to the instrument panel and reconnect the instrument panel wire harness at the back of the cluster. Place the two mounting posts for the cluster housing on the bottom against the locator holes on the instrument panel support and then tilt the upper section forward until the two top tabs fit into their holes. Hold the upper mounting tabs in place by screwing them to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Attach the cluster bezel to the instrument panel and connect the battery's negative cable, too. If indicator lights are not working properly, remove the negative Battery Cable from the battery, wait a few minutes and then put it back, then press the ignition switch to ON to have the instrument cluster update the indicators to the correct settings.
  • Q: How to Remove and Service an Instrument Cluster from the Dashboard on Jeep Commander?
    A:
You should disconnect the battery negative cable, isolate it and remove the three bolts securing the driver's side hush panel to remove the instrument panel. With a trim stick C-4755 or a similar tool, separate the top clips, turn the cover down, unfasten the lower hinges and the opening cover will come off. Guarantee that the vehicle's air bag system is unset before you start shopping. After that, take care not to break the tangs as you loosen the three bolts in the lower shroud and separate the two shrouds. After removing the steering column electrical connectors, keep the Steering Wheel centered to protect the Clock Spring. After the pinch bolt and column support bolts are removed, slide the column down off the main bracket by taking out the column cross bolt. Remove the nuts holding the instrument panel to the pedal support bracket, remove the door seal and use the trim stick to detach the left side cover panel, left side door sill and driver's side cowl trim. Remove all the screws and electrical connectors that you find in the opening at the steering column. Cut the connectors between the white adjustable pedal and the HVAC systems at their points. First, separate the bolts and left A-pillar trim and afterward detach the bolts and screw joining the A-pillar to the support on the left side. With the trim stick, pull out the shifter bezel and shifter bezel ring, take off the center console back cover and unplug the electrical connector. Take out the screws and, after that, unplug the electrical connectors below the console. Separate the hangers, unscrew each of them and pull the ground cable off. Take out the shifter assembly along with the HVAC duct, then push the glove box damper rod towards the rear to release it, toss the glove box open and press the stop tabs to drop it out. Remove the hush panel on the passenger side and take away the door sill molding on the right, then take out the nut on the cowl trim and remove the panel. Detach the electrical wiring and the antenna connection, remove every bolt from the right A-pillar trim and remove the screws from the A-pillar support too. Use the trim stick to uninstall the defroster grill and radio bezel and if your car has one, also remove the screw from the lower storage bin. Take off the center bezel, separate the electrical connections, remove the nut from the HVAC support stud and remove the screw from under the opening for the glove box. First, take out the bolt from the HVAC bracket under the glove box, then from the center support brackets, the center floor duct, under the radio and finally the two HVAC bolts from the radio opening and the instrument panel assembly.
