Before handling the Clock Spring assembly, first using a wrench, uninstall the negative
Battery Cable to disable the SRS and isolate the battery, then wait two minutes so the
Air Bag system is discharged and will not accidentally activate when you handle the Clock Spring. The service replacement Clock Spring is already centered and held with a molded plastic locking pin; until the
Steering Wheel is on, you should not remove this pin or it will need to be re-centered. Straighten and lock the steering wheel before you start. When you install a new Clock Spring, move the multifunction switch jumper harness from the previous module or use a new one. Put the Clock Spring onto the upper shaft of the steering column and put back the three connectors to the instrument panel harness. Insert the Clock Spring into the steering column housing and only loosely set the screws that secure the back and face of the Clock Spring. Fix the screws in the sequence of lower right, upper left and upper right at 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.) so the steering wheel won't make any noise as it turns. First, put the left and right multifunction switches back on the Clock Spring and afterwards, attach the upper and lower shrouds to the steering column. Raise the steering column fully and lock it and after that attach the steering wheel again. Remove the plastic locking pin to keep the Clock Spring centered and fix the driver air bag back in place. Afterwards, attach the battery negative cable again.
